By now im sure a lot of you have heard about the two whales (a baby and a momma) that made their way all the way inland to Sacramento and the efforts being made to get them back out to the ocean safely. They've finally made their way out to us here on the Carquinez Strait, and let me tell you - it's madness here at the academy as we all wait for them to stop playing between the bridges and pass out through the strait and out into the bay. This is a fairly small and very busy shipping lane, so the need to move these whales out is pretty important from a business-as-usual aspect.
The UPS guy that stopped by this morning mentioned to me that he was thinking of calling in sick today to watch the whales, but apparently he decided against it.
And wouldn't you know, I forgot my camera? I may run up and grab it just in case, but it's looking iffy. There are a ton of responders here from a number of different agencies, all of them seem to be carrying on conversations on the phone which are entirely unrelated to the great whale exodus.
More from Whale Zero as it goes down.
EDIT 1018 - word is they are "right at the bridge"
EDIT 1044 - they're just past the academy now - they even waved a bit to us! It's also cold as hell outside, and since i don't have binoculars, i retreated back to the office.
